PTG deliver critical telecommunications services at Kwinana Waste to Energy Substation

Pathfinder Technology Group Pty Ltd, were delighted to be awarded a major contract with Perth based underground cable solutions company Power On Cabling. Within the scope of the contract, Pathfinder are delivering a range of critical telecommunications services at the brand-new Kwinana Waste to Energy 132kV Substation, for the end-client Western Power.

A part of the Federal Government ‘Advancing Renewables Programme’, the substation will be the first of its kind in Australia, integrating the recovery and reuse of waste with the generation of energy.  It will process 400,000 tonnes of waste every year, equivalent to one quarter of Perth’s post-recycling rubbish whilst reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 400,000 tonnes annually. The facility will also generate and export 36MW of green electricity to the local grid every year, sufficient to power more than 50,000 households.

This significant project follows other recent contract wins, as the company continues to demonstrate strong growth and higher demand for its expertise.

The scope of the project at the Kwinana Waste to Energy Substation includes; building and installing telecommunications cabinets, DC systems, cable tray and earthing, fibre optic connectivity – including cabling hauling and jointing, automation and protection system racks and cabling, site security system infrastructure and cabling, OPGW to underground optical fibre transitioning and control system field terminations.

The new facility has been built adjacent to the existing waste to energy generation site and subsequently the company has been given additional responsibility to integrate this new site into an existing fibre optic network. Pathfinder will also augment the telecommunication capabilities of the adjacent sites via equipment and cabling upgrades – to deliver a unified and cohesive solution across all sites.

Director Jonathan Ellery commented “We’re delighted to continually build on our existing relationships with Power On Cabling, Western Power, Vocus and our other valued clients. Being relied upon as a highly trusted supplier of specialist telecommunications infrastructure, particularly on projects that carry significant responsibility, is something we value very highly. The Kwinana Substation project is both exciting, fairly complex and definitely falls into this category”.
